The RIS team recently exhibited at the EONS ( European Oncology Nursing Society) in the fantastic city of Dublin. EONS brings together Cancer Nurses, Advanced Nurse Specialists, Researchers, Psychologists and other members of the Multi Professional team. EONS is committed to helping nurses across Europe developing their skills, network and raise the profile of Cancer Nursing.

The theme of the meeting was balancing the physical and psychosocial needs of the patient and family members. Over 400 delegates attended the congress and the RIS team were on hand to offer advice on oral care for any patients suffering or recovering from Cancer.

The RIS Team really enjoyed their time in Dublin and found the EONS meeting of great benefit and hopefully the delegates that came to the stand found the tips and advice on oral care interesting and will hopefully improve oral care for their patients.

Northern Head and Neck Cancer Fund
Head and Neck Cancer Patient Survivorship Event.
20th September 2016

On 20th September 2016 we exhibited at Gateshead International Stadium to support the Head and Neck Cancer Patient Survivorship Group.

This event is held yearly to provide resources, information and a place where people can share their experiences post treatment, and presentations on a variety of subjects are given by both clinical staff and patients.

It was a pleasure to be able to meet all these lovely people and provide them with advice on oral care and the correct techniques in product use and application which will hopefully benefit them in the future.

We will look forward to attending and supporting this event next year.

RIS Healthcare's First Group of Oral Care Champions Meet
23rd June 2016

First Bury Oral care Group Forum
Today we attended the above forum group to ascertain how our oral care champions had been getting on and how or if they had managed to implement any new oral care procedures into their workplaces.

It was wonderful to hear from those who attended what great things they had achieved, two homes in particular had implemented the following:

• Mandatory oral care training for all staff member which consists of a presentation and practical mouth care element.
• A demonstration model purchased so staff can practice there brushing techniques.
• New oral care champions had been placed on each individual unit with the homes.
• Daily oral care charts introduced to residents files and these are assessed on a monthly basis.
• Pen torches in use when oral assessments are being done.
• Residents now have access to items to adapt there toothbrushes to improve grip and help maintain independence.
• Planned E-Learning tool to be developed in the future.
• And better links have been formed with dentist and more routine visits are being made.

The above just goes to show that with training, guidance and motivated Care and nursing home staff that change to oral care standards within these settings can be achieved. Education and motivation is the key to this.
